“A doctor’s journey towards philanthropy“

Dr. Syed Aqa Zafir
He graduated with top grades and honors from King Edward College, Lahore in 1954. A senior top class surgeon offered him to join his practice but Dr. Zafir declined the offer with this note: ‘ I could not morally charge patients a fee’ and chose to do Public Health.
He went to Harvard (USA) in 1958 for a doctorate in Public Health. After completing his degree at John Hopkins University he joined WHO, an international organization in 1963 and served in various positions, later being the Director in Alexandria, Egypt as Regional Director for Middle East and South Asia.
He served in East and West Pakistan for Malaria Eradication and Population Planning during his tenure at WHO.
His ‘dream’ for the service of humanity came true after his retirement from WHO that he devoted his time and energy to establish the BABAZA FOUNDATION TRUST. He registered the Trust in February 2003 in Karachi.
