BFT HEALTH CARE CENTRE

The Clinic

The Healthcare Centre clinic was established within the school premises in 2006 in Zaman Town. Two doctors were appointed along with a Healthcare Coordinator and LHVs. The first priority of HHC was to survey the area by house-to house visits and meet with the residents of Zaman Town and adjacent areas. The purpose of this exercise was to gain data on the following: number of members of the household, income of the breadwinner, common ailments, childhood diseases and immunization records. Our coordinator visited the Korangi Town Council hospitals and met with the administrators so that our doctors could refer cases in case of serious diseases, chronic ailments and maternity cases.

Once the school moved to a purpose built premises the clinic was moved to another location. In realization of the number of patients within the large area and need for more facilities for the community, as our registered patients number increase to over 22,000 persons hence, a second clinic was established at 100 Quarters, Korangi where the residents were labourers and fishermen from the Ibrahim Hyderi area. A retired doctor and LHV with support staff managed the clinic and patients requirements, free medication was issued to all the patients. A nominal charge of Rs.10/- is standard for registration of the patient. After a number of years of HHC service the 100 Quarters clinic was relocated to a new premise at Korangi 5 ½, in a newly refurbished clinic. The registered patients continue to visit the clinic for consultation. The total registered patients to date are over 18,000 that normally visit our Health Care Centre.

Water Filtration Plant

In 2006, our doctors were concerned that a number of patients visiting our clinics have waterborne diseases such as gastroenteritis, hepatitis, scabies and other skin ailments. The supply of water in the area was contaminated and unclean for drinking and cooking purposes. The Chairman, Sayyed Irtiza Husain at that time contacted a few Water Filtration companies for quotations and recommendations. The matter was also discussed with the Board of Trustees for fund-raising for the plants from family and friends. The recommendations and rates of So-Safe Water Company were most reasonable and they discounted the rates as their contribution to our project of providing ‘Safe Drinking Water’ to the Korangi residents.

Our existing Water Filtration Plants are located at Coast Guard Chowrangi and Korangi 5 ½ and we estimate that over 225,360 persons are our beneficiaries. There is no limit to the amount of water they can take however there are specific timing for discharge of water from 8:00 am to 12 noon and in the evening from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
