Sayied Irtiza Husain was born in July 1940 in Agra (British India). Following the partition, his family migrated to Karachi in December 1947. He began his education at St. Patrick’s High School and later completed his matriculation from CMS High School. He continued his studies at D.J. Science College, completing his Intermediate in 1957, and joined the Pakistan Naval Academy later that year.
In December 1958, he was selected for further training at the prestigious Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, UK, from where he graduated and was commissioned into the Pakistan Navy in July 1961.
Throughout his naval career, Sayied Irtiza Husain pursued academic excellence alongside his service. He earned a BSc from the University of Karachi in 1967, followed by a BSc (Honours) and an MSc in Strategic Studies from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, in 1997.
During his 33½ years of service in the Pakistan Navy, he held numerous command and leadership roles, including commanding several warships and destroyers. Notably, in 1980, he led the mission to bring the destroyer PNS Tipu Sultan from the United States to Pakistan. He served with distinction in both the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak wars.
In recognition of his exceptional service, he was awarded the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) in 1993 by the President of Pakistan for “exceptionally meritorious conduct and outstanding performance.”
After retiring in 1994 with the rank of Commodore, he founded Irtisaal Enterprises, a private firm representing a range of international manufacturers. In 2000, he expanded his ventures by launching Irtisaal Surveys, a company specializing in hydrography and oceanographic surveys.
Dedicated to social service, Sayied Irtiza Husain has been actively involved with the Babaza Foundation Trust since its inception in 2003. He has previously served as Treasurer and Chairman, and in 2024, was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the 2024–2027 term. He brings a wealth of experience in leadership, operations, and financial management to the Trust’s mission and activities.
