Syed Munsif Raza was born in August 1946 in Agra (British India), and his family migrated to Karachi in 1947. After completing his primary and secondary education at leading schools in Karachi, he moved to Baghdad in 1964 to pursue higher education. There, he enrolled in the College of Engineering at Baghdad University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering.
Following brief professional stints at Iraq Petroleum Company and Kuwait Petroleum, he returned to Pakistan and joined Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) in February 1970 as a Petroleum Engineer. Over nearly four decades, he rose through the ranks, holding key positions within the organization. In 1997, he was appointed Managing Director of PPL, a role in which he served for 11 years.
Under his leadership, PPL experienced remarkable growth and development. He was also a strong advocate of corporate social responsibility (CSR), supporting numerous charitable and welfare organizations across Pakistan. During his tenure, PPL emerged as one of the country’s leading contributors to CSR initiatives. He retired in 2008, completing an impressive 38 years of service.
In 2009, he launched his own consultancy firm in Karachi, and in 2014, expanded operations to the UAE. In 2022, he chose to wind down his business ventures to focus fully on philanthropy and social service.
A founding member of the Babaza Foundation Trust, he has served as both Chairman and Treasurer since the Trust’s establishment in 2003. He currently serves as the Treasurer, where he contributes his extensive experience in management and financial oversight to support the operations and governance of the Trust.
